Joan McKee
Joan McKee passed away peacefully at RUH on April 1, 2009. Joan was born to Alex and Rose (Dutchak) Olynek in Moose Jaw, SK. She moved to Saskatoon in 1953 where she worked as a night cook and took hairdressing during the day. After graduating and working in a local shop for a year, she opened the Artistique Beauty Salon which she operated until 1980. Eventually, she opened a cafeteria along with the salon. In 1957 she married Pat McKee and together they owned and operated many other businesses. They owned the Airliner Cuisine restaurant and banquet hall as well as the Potash Capital Inn food booth at the exhibition. Joan was involved with many service clubs and association boards, most notably serving as President of the Saskatchewan Branch of the Canadian Restaurant Assoc. She loved singing and was proud to have sung with most of the local dance bands in her younger years, and recently with the singing group Orpheus. She was happiest working in her flower garden, cooking a meal for friends and pampering her pets. Joan was predeceased by her husband Pat, father Alex, mother Rose when Joan was a young girl, brothers Stan and Victor. She is survived by mother Anne Olynek; brothers Dennis, Ray (Pat), sister Priscilla (James Wenzel) Olynek; sister-in-law Lois Olynek; nieces Kim (Keith Blair) Olynek; Sharon (Brad) Warn; nephews Lee (Jackie); Scott, Jeffrey, special aunt Olga Toderash, as well as numerous cousins, aunts, great nieces and nephews. Joan will be dearly missed by her family and many close friends.
The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 6 at 1:30p.m. at the Saskatoon Funeral Home. Internment will follow at the Woodlawn Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
