Lester Lockard McCallum, 77, of Hilden, passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 8, 2009 in the Colchester Regional Hospital Truro.
Born in Truro, he was a son of the late Fred and Margaret (Crowe) McCallum.
He worked at Canada Packers until retiring after 35 years, when he went to live with his niece Sherry McCallum in 1993. He enjoyed his life, listening to his old music, watching his Westerns and looking forward to his drives with Mike MacSwain and “Big†Rob Clark, and his visits from Donna Whidden and “Lil†Rob Green. He also looked forward to Grace Chisholm when she stopped by. He had fond memories of the Marsh on Park Street and the old maple tree that is still standing where he planted it so many years ago.
He will be sadly missed by his nieces Sherry McCallum (Gary Dean), Danielle Clark and Robyn (Greg Withrow). Also surviving are his brother Percy (Vena) McCallum; “Big Rob†Clark and most beloved pet cat “Miss Kitty.â€
He was predeceased by the love of his life the former Lois (Delaney) McCallum in 1973; sisters Nellie (Chester) Marshall; Carrie (Lionel) Crowe; brothers Johnny (Ina) McCallum; George “Mike†(Dot) McCallum; Willie (Greta) McCallum.
No funeral service by his request. Visitation will be held 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 10, in the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young St., Truro. Interment to be held at a later date in the Robie Street Cemetery, Truro. Donations in Lester’s memory may be made to the Colchester S.P.C.A.
