Smith, Beatrice Nora - The death of B. Nora (nee Palmer) Smith, wife of the late Burtt Mitton Smith of Fredericton, NB, occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on Thursday, April 1st, 2010. Born in Huntington, England she was the daughter of the late Archibald and Alice (Picard) Palmer. Following in her father's footsteps, Nora trained as a pharmacist in London, England. In 1941, she met Burtt, her husband-to-be, who was serving with the R.C.A.F. At the end of the war, she joined Burtt in Fredericton where they started their family. Nora was an active member of Christ Church (Parish) Church. She served several terms on vestry and was elected to the position of Senior Warden. This led to serving on the Provincial and National Synods of the Anglican Church of Canada. Throughout her years at the Parish Church, her membership in and involvement with various committees of the ACW were very important to her. She was awarded Life Membership in the Sir Leonard Tilley Chapter of the I.O.D.E., and was recognized for her long and dedicated service with the Fredericton Community Kitchen. She was an enthusiastic golfer and was a member of the Fredericton Golf Club for many years. She is survived by her son, Roger Smith of Fredericton, two daughters, Penny Lester (William) and Debbie Smith, all of Calgary, grandson Jeremy, sister Betty Bryant of Norfolk, England and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Burtt, her parents, brother Tom Palmer, sister Margaret Moorcroft and grandson Christopher.
There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will take place at Christ Church (Parish) Church on Wednesday, April 7th, 2010 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Anthony Kwaw officiating. A reception will take place in the church immediately following the memorial service. Interment will take place at a later date in the Forest Hill Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial tributes may be made to the charity of the donors' choice.
