Dorothy Jane Michael, 72, We’koqma’q First Nation, Inverness, Co., passed away peacefully Thursday, April 9, 2009 in Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in We’koqma’q, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Mary (Paul) Googoo. Dorothy was a homemaker and a member of Blessed Katerie parish, Holy Trinity Church, We’koqma’q First Nation. She was known for making crafts and was also known as a big fan of bingo. She especially loved going to the We’koqma’q church committee bingo.
Surviving are her loving children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren; her sons, Andrew Joe (Anna) Michael, We’koqma’q, Lester (Juanita) Michael, Wagmatcook; her daughters, Bernadette (William) Young, We’koqma’q, Janey (David) Stevens, Wagmatcook, Mary Katy Micheal and (Sherri), We’koqma’q; daughters-in-law, Arlene Michael and Madeline Michael, both of We’koqma’q; sister-in-law, Theresa Henderson, Hamilton, Ont.; aunts, Margaret Johnson, Eskasoni and Caroline Gould, We’koqma’q; 24 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred Joseph; a daughter in infancy; sons, Clarence Michael, Kep’tin Alex Joe Michael; sisters, Jessie Phillips, Pauline Gould and Bertha Bernard.
Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today (Tuesday) in the family residence, 69 Reservation Rd., We’koqma’q. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Thursday in Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Fr. Robert McNeil officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
