Passed on: April 11th, 2009
Verena Forgeron, Sydney, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, April 11, 2009 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in West Arichat, Verena was the daughter of the late Harry and Mary (MacNamara) Dorey. She left her mark through many “good worksâ€, by giving of her time generously to the church and community in Halifax, Sydney and West Arichat, and as a long-time volunteer for the Canadian Red Cross.
Verena always had a special fondness for those who needed extra time, attention or sense of family. She gave her love and attention generously, and was rewarded with the devotion of her children and grandchildren.
She thoroughly enjoyed time spent with family, sharing a joke and her hearty laugh, or preparing one of her famous recipes. Knitting was undoubtedly her favorite hobby, and each of us has been the proud recipient of her treasures.
She is survived by her four children, Ronald (Frances), Ann (Kevin) Cosgrove, Karen (Edward) MacMaster, Helen (David) Crane; grandchildren, Matthew and Andrew Crane, Angela and Keith MacMaster, Kathryn (John Cipryk) and Kevin E. Cosgrove, Celeste and Gregory (Rachelle) Forgeron; great-grandchildren, Adelle Verena and Simon Alexander; half-sisters, Eileen Baker, Dartmouth and Dorothy LeBlanc, West Arichat; several loving nieces, nephews and caring friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edward J Forgeron; four brothers, Albert, Wallace, Hyacinth and twin brother in infancy, Leon; as well as half-sisters, Dorothy LeBlanc, West Arichat and Marie Landry, Louisdale.
Visitation will take place at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George Street on Wednesday, April 15 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Sydney River on Thursday, April 16 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Will MacPherson officiating.
Special thanks to Dr. Greg Myatt and his team, Dr. Frances D’Intino of the Palliative Care Unit and nepthrologist, Dr. Siva Thanamayooran. Their genuine compassion, care and support of Verena was much appreciated.
