August 14, 1939 – April 12, 2009
“God's finger touched him, and he slept.†-Alfred, Lord Tennyson
After a long battle with cancer Wayne passed away on Easter Sunday, surrounded by his family, at the Eston Integrated Health Care Facility. Wayne was predeceased by his father, Fred (1979) and his daughter Susan (1992). He is survived by his mother Martha, of Eston; his wife Kay, of Lacadena; and his children: Bob (Anne-Marie) and grandsons Michael and Noah of Saskatoon; Bryce of Pusan, South Korea; Janette of Rochester, England; and Mark of Saskatoon. Wayne loved his family and spent as much time with them as he could! Truly loved he will be truly missed. Wayne was part of an important musical heritage in Saskatchewan; he trained with Mr. Lyell Gustin in Saskatoon and received his ARCT Degree in Piano Performance. He delighted in performing, and listening to, both classical and jazz music. In the 1950s and 60s, Wayne also played bass with the U of S Varsity Big Band and performed with the Intensely Vigorous College 9 – although he always denied having ever been intensely vigorous himself! He returned to the family farm in 1963 and married Kay in 1965. Wayne and his father ran a mixed farm and, during the 1960s and1970s, were proud of their fine herd of Registered Polled Herefords. While farming, Wayne continued to be involved in music by performing with the Happy Wanderers for over 20 years. After retiring, Wayne remained with Kay on the farm until his death. “To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.†Thomas Campbell. Over the years, Wayne was actively involved in the local communities. He served on the Eston Hospital Board for 11 years. He was a Unit Board Trustee for the Eston-Elrose School Division while his children attended school. Wayne served on the Clearwater Lake Board for many years and always enjoyed spending time at the family cabin. He was one of the founding members of the Lacadena Lions Club and enjoyed the meetings - especially those when he was not required to cook! The Vigil of Prayer was held on Thursday, April 16, at 7:30 p.m. and the Funeral Mass was held on Friday, April 17, at 10:30 a.m. Both services took place at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eston, SK. Interment and lunch followed in Lacadena, SK. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Eston Caring Hands, the Lacadena Community Centre or to the charity of your choice. Clements Rosetown Funeral Home entrusted with the arrangements.
