A friend to all in the Sydney Mines community, Alice Amelia MacKinnon passed away peacefully on April 15, 2009, at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by her beloved family, with a very sudden illness.
Born in Arichat on October 29, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Marcellina (Fougere) Pottie. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish, Sydney Mines. She was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Branch 8, Sydney Mines, and a proud member of the Sydney Mines Pensioners Club.
Alice was a foster mother to many children. Her favourite pastimes were Bingo and a good game of cards, along with many travels.
She is survived by her 3 loving children; Pat (Julie), Florence, Daniel (Shirley), New Waterford, and Vanessa (Robbie), Sydney Mines. She is also survived by her sisters, Patricia (Wilfred), Delores (James), Marjorie (Alfred), and Tina, and brothers, Eugene (Gill), Ambrose (Karen), and Danny (Shaunn); grandchildren, Christine, Adrian, Patrick, Devon, Natasha, and Joshua, along with many special nieces and nephews.
Alice is also survived by her friend and companion Monty Bridgette, along with many special friends, who were always there for her. No need to name names, we all know who they are; Silent Angels.
Besides her parents, Alice was predeceased by her husband Pat MacKinnon, and her brothers Louie and James Pottie.
Visitation for Alice MacKinnon will be held in the J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, on Friday, April 17,2009, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The funeral mass celebrating her life will take place on Saturday at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. J. J. MacDonald officiating. A reception will follow in the Immaculate Conception Centennial Room.
