WASYLIW – Gladys
October 3, 1932 – April 5, 2009
Gladys was born in Virden, MB, and always worked hard as a young person. Before marriage, she notably sang with the Wilf Carter Band and she always wondered how her life may have differed had she gone to Nashville to pursue music professionally. After marriage to Alex on December 2, 1950 they lived in Flin Flon, Medicine Hat, Saskatoon and Cando where she owned and operated her own café, the only one there at the time. They then moved to Campbell River, BC for 23 years and moved to Prince Albert in January 1991. She enjoyed cross-stitch, knitting, playing cards and reading as well as spending time with friends and relatives who came to visit. Gladys had a dear love for all of her children, and showed her love to each one uniquely. Gladys is survived by her children Ardeth Anderson of Kelowna, BC, Al (Carrie) Wasyliw of Prince Albert, Dale Wasyliw of Kelowna, BC, Bonnie Wasyliw of Prince Albert, Laurie (Ralph) Wirth of Echville, AB, Kelly (Paul) Buccholz of Oman, UAE and Karen Zehner-Wasyliw of Red Deer, AB; her sister Edna Fox (Denzil) of Mirden, MB; 14 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and numerous sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Alex; daughter Tracy Scott; son Darrell; grandsons Christopher and Nicholas; her parents Jack and Georgina Gallant; brothers Arphie, Freddy and Johnnie; sister Ida and numerous brothers-in-law. Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Colonel Robert Chapman officiating. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray's Funeral Chapel, Drew Gray, Funeral Director.
