SCANSEN, Wilferd Morris, passed away peacefully at the age of 71 on March 8, 2009 in Prince Albert, SK. Wilf was born near Cadillac, SK on April 16, 1937 and raised on the family farm. He worked at several jobs across western Canada after leaving home at age sixteen. He married Eva Barton in 1957 and the couple settled in Prince Albert where they would raise their two children, Yvonne and Rodney. Wilf completed his plumbing apprenticeship in 1963 and opened his own business, Wilf’s Plumbing and Heating Service, in 1964. Wilf was proud to be his own boss for the rest of his working life. In 1998 he lost his beloved Eva after a brief illness. His retirement years were marked by many wonderful friendships and highlighted by his annual trips to visit his grandchildren in Ontario.
Wilf was predeceased by his wife Eva, his parents Melvin and Alma Scansen, his brothers Earl and Aron Scansen, his sister Marlene Picard, father-in-law Ab Barton, mother-in-law Lillie May Barton, brothers-in-law Al Barclay, Bob Barker, Ray Picard, Herb Barton, Louis Haakensen and Bob Thompson, and sisters-in-law Erma Scansen and Kay Thompson. He is survived by his daughter Yvonne Kelly, son-in-law, Rick Kelly, his grandchildren Roberta, Juliana, Liam, Dylan and Ewan Kelly, his son Rodney Scansen, his brother Dean Scansen, his sisters Vi Barclay and Jean Barker, sisters-in-law Hazel Scansen, Fran Scansen, Wilma Haakensen and Annie Barton and by numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Wilf will be missed by all who knew him. In the words of one good friend, he was an easy guy to like.
A memorial service officiated by Rev. Tony Thompson will be held on Monday March 16, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in MacKenzie Funeral Home, 130-9th Street East, Prince Albert, SK followed by interment at South Hill Cemetery.
