Lulu (Lou) Fern Opsahl (nee Tweedie/Gladstone) passed away on March 2, 2009. A Memorial Service will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 812 Preston Avenue, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Saturday, March 7, at 1:30pm. Lou is survived by her daughter June Dieffenderfer (nee Gladstone) of Saskatoon; step-daughters Fran Opsahl Botting (Walter), DeWinton, Alberta, and Alice Biladeau, Edmonton, Alberta; step-son Art (Opsahl) Aselson, Vancouver, British Columbia; sister-in-law Maise (Leask) Tweedie, Prince Albert, Saskatchewan; and many grandsons, granddaughters, and nieces and nephews. Lou was predeceased by her husband Tom Opsahl of Domremy, Saskatchewan; son-in-law Ted Dieffenderfer, Longmont, Colorado; step-son Lloyd Opsahl (Betty) of DeWinton, Alberta; her parents Forbes and Florence Tweedie; and twelve brothers and sisters. Lou was born at MacDowall, Saskatchewan, December 29, 1914. She grew up in the district of Fenton, Saskatchewan, and attended St. Andrew’s School. Lou stayed on her parents’ farm until 1946, and she then worked as a nurses’s aide at Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert until 1949. She married Tom Opsahl (widower) on November 18, 1949, and they lived on Tom’s farm in Domremy, Saskatchewan. Tom passed away August 11, 1964, with cancer. She stayed on the farm until 1969, when she sold it and moved to Saskatoon. She took a course with Spenser Garments of Canada in corsetry and became a registered corsetiere. She was also a certified fitter consultant with Airway Surgical Company to fit ladies with breast prosthesis. She did this work until 1997 when she sold her business to Nordon Drugs of Saskatoon. Lou was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church where she was one of the original members of the Altar Guild. She was a life member of Soroptimist International of Saskatoon, and a member of the Saskatoon Scandinavian Club. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Redeemer Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice. Inurnment will occur at a later date.
