It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother and grandmother, Jean MacLeod, on Friday, April 17, 2009, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in North Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Maude (Caswell) Fowler.
Jean was self-employed as a hairdresser for many years. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, and the ACW. She served as badge secretary for St. John’s Girl Guides for many years. Aunt Jean enjoyed spending time with her family, especially at the summer cottage in Big Bras d’Or and celebrating Christmas Eve.
She is survived by two daughters, Donna (Roland) Parsons and Grace (Edward) Boulter, both of Lower Sackville; a son, Kenny (Dr. Louise) MacLeod, Leitches Creek; her six grandchildren, Sheri, Glenna, Eddie, Jennifer, Megan, Jeana; and by her three great-grandchildren, Bryce, Alyssa-Jayne and Alex.
Jean was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was predeceased by her husband, Donald ‘Donnie’ MacLeod, sisters, Cymbeline (Theodore) Hamilton, Mary (Douglas) Ratchford, Evelyn (Max) Lovett, Elizabeth ‘Bess’ (Percy) MacFadden, Phyllis (Red) Seward and by her brother, Ralph (Mary) Fowler.
Visitation for Jean will be held Monday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service will take place Tuesday, 3 p.m. from St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Gloria McClure-Fraser officiating. Burial at a later date in Lakeside Cemetery.
