Passed peacefully away after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at the Health Sciences Centre at the age of 67. Predeceased by her parents, Alpheus and Ethel May. Left with many happy memories to cherish are her children: Kirsty Tompkins (Brent), Arthur (Gillian) and Edward; her seven grandchildren, whom she adored and loved to spoil; Lindsay and Ian Tompkins; William, Alexander and Julianne Taylor; and Mackenzie and Sidney Taylor (along with their mother, Kyla Gartner). Also left to mourn is her brother, George May (Mary), and her three sisters, Alfreda Hickman (George), Ruby Piercey (Ken) and Elizabeth Barney (Rodney), as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Special thanks to Dr. Kara Laing (also a close family friend), Dr. Patti Power and to nurse Kim Craig, as well as the nurses on 4 South B at the Health Sciences Centre, for their excellent and compassionate care. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, Hamilton Avenue. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, April 21, from 10:00 to 12:00, 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00. A private celebration of her life will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Breast Cancer Research Division of the Canadian Cancer Society.
