ARCHIBALD, Joyce – 88, Truro, passed away Monday, April 20, 2009. Born January 21, 1921 in Salmon River, Colchester County, she was a daughter of the late Stan and Irma (McLaughlin) Archibald. Joyce studied at the Truro Normal College and later entered Acadia University music program, majoring in piano and organ. Her teaching career began in Green’s Creek, Colchester County and later in Sarnia, Ontario. Upon retirement, Joyce returned to live on the family farm in Salmon River and was residing at The Mira Long Term Health Care Centre at the time of her passing. Joyce’s family is very proud of her accomplishments and of her enduring spirit over a long life. She will be deeply missed. The family wishes to thank all the staff at The Mira for their wonderful care of Joyce over the years. Joyce is survived by her sister, Mary-Lou (Archibald) McKinnon; nephews, Charles McKinnon, Cameron (Nancy) McKinnon, James McKinnon, Rod (Heather) McKinnon, Tom (Theresa) Goldie; niece, Pam (Goldie) Barber (John); many members of the extended family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where the funeral service will be held 11 am Thursday, April 23, 2009, Reverend Allen Darby officiating. Interment will then be held in Watson Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joyce’s memory to a charity of choice are welcomed.
