It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our brother, brother-in-law, uncle and dear friend, Michael 'Little Ben’ Walsh on Wednesday, April 22, 2009, after his long struggle with health issues at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Ben and Jean (Downey) Walsh. During his life Michael worked for Spike’s garage in Scotchtown and also for Hinchey’s in New Waterford. He then went on and worked 24 years with Devco.
Little Ben is survived by three sisters, Mary (George) Ceccehetto, Sylvia (Dave) Jefferies and Stephanie Walsh, all of New Waterford; brothers, Wilfred ‘Trudo’, Sydney, David (Yvonne) and Bernie, both of New Waterford, and Kenny (Ingrid), Ontario. Also by many nieces and nephews, as well as his best friend, Charlie Hurley and very close friends, Moe and Brenda Durdle, who were like mother and father to him. Thank you very much from the family.
Besides his parents, four siblings predeceased him in infancy.
Visitation will take place today, Friday, April 24 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 862-7500. A funeral mass celebrating Michael’s life will be held, Saturday April 25 at 10 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard, St. Michael’s Church with Fr. Doug MacDonald officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney. A luncheon will take place after in the Knights of Columbus Hall, 3226 Plummer Ave., New Waterford. All are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Michael’s name to the Diabetes Association.
