It is with great sorrow that we the family announce the passing of our dear wife, mother and sister, Lenora Wessel, on Thursday, April 23, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a brief battle of cancer surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Nellie (Whalen) Doublet.
Lenora loved life and enjoyed spending time with her family. She enjoyed playing darts at the Elks Lodge and to play the slot machines.
Lenora is survived by her husband and best friend of 25 years, Ernie Wessel; three sons, Paul (Mary Beth) Vassillo, Peter Vassillo, Joseph ‘Joey’ (Michelle) Vassillo, all of New York; her precious grandchildren, Nicolette, Anabelle, Ethan. She is also survived by her sisters, Yvonne (John) Schaller, Ontario, Delores (Art) Woodburn, April (Kevin) Hawco; brothers, Kenny (Helen) Doublet, Allan (Sheila) Doublet, all of Sydney, Kevin (Shirley) Doublet, Point Edward; her uncle Fred (Pauline) Whalen, Sydney; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Sonya Doublet and a brother, George in infancy.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cape Breton Palliative Care, An Cala Society.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 25 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. Reception to follow.
