87, Willow Lodge Home For Special Care, Tatamagouche and formerly of Malagash, passed away April 23, 2009, in the Lodge. Born in Malagash, she was a daughter of the late Elmer and Elmira (Patriquin) Purdy. As a young woman during the Second World War, she spent her time at the Pictou shipyards as a journeyman boiler cleaner. After the war, she spent the rest of her life in Malagash raising her large family of 14 children. While in Malagash, she was active in her community in the UCW, MARS group, and was a president of the Home and School Association. She loved flowers and working in her flower garden, crossword puzzles and socializing with friends and neighbours. Surviving are her daughters, Katherine Smith (Clayton), Bible Hill; Jean Tingley (David), Wheatly River, P.E.I.; Loretta Nickerson (Loran), Crowes Mills; Francine MacDonald, Centreville; Teresa MacDonald, Malagash; June Jenkins (Dean), Cobourg, Ontario; sons, John (Cheryl), Regina; Danny (Melanie) Rocky Mountain House, Alberta; Bernie (Steve Crossman), Dartmouth; sons-in-law, Michael Tibbetts, Dartmouth; Raymond Stevens, Pugwash; daughter-in-law, Laura MacDonald (Leonard’s wife), Alberta; 34 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; nephews and nieces. Lillian was predeceased by her husband, Francis MacDonald; sons, Leonard and Lee; daughters, Mary Theresa, Karen Stevens and Sandra Tibbetts; sister, Mae Welton; nephew, Donald Baxter. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Monday, April 27, 2009, in Malagash United Church, Rev. Connie McNamara officiating. Interment will be in Miners’ Cemetery, Malagash. A reception will follow in the Malagash Mines Hall until 7 p.m. Family flowers only by request. Memorial donations to Miners’ Cemetery or Willow Lodge would be appreciated.
