It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our cherished son, brother and friend, Michael ‘Morgan’ Reid.
Born Jan. 6, 1987, in Orange County, Calif., he was the youngest and only son of Michael Reid and the late Karen (Gillis) Reid.
Raised in New Waterford, N.S., Morgan loved sports and travelled the province with his ball team and studied martial arts, winning many trophies and belts in taekwando.
Morgan attended Breton Education Centre until the family moved to Alberta in 2001, where he graduated from Fr. Mercredi High School, Fort McMurray in 2005. After high school, Morgan joined Local 92 Construction and General Workers Union and approached his career with enthusiasm and pride. He joined the organizing department in 2008 and served his union with devotion until the time of his death.
Left to mourn his passing are his father, Michael Reid; sisters, Tamara (Nick) Connors, Pam Gillis (George McLean); nieces, Kaylee and Kiarra Connors, nephew, Keigan Connors; aunts, Bonita Oliver, Ontario, Kathey Lee and Kelley Burke, both of New Waterford, and Theresa ‘Sister’ Reid, Alberta; uncles, Kevin Oliver and Russell Reid, Alberta, and Francis and Murray Reid, both of New Waterford.
Besides his beloved mother, Morgan was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Evelyn Oliver and paternal grandparents, Allan ‘Mose’ and Theresa ‘Bea’ Reid as well as his aunt, Linda Reid Piercy.
Memorial service Wednesday, April 29 at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, 210 Haddow Close (23 Avenue and Terwillegar Drive), Edmonton, Alta. Cremation has taken place. Inurnment of Morgan’s cremains will take place in July at Low Point “Stone Church” Victoria Mines, C.B. Details to follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Morgan’s name to Patient Assistance Program, The Cross Cancer Institute, Alberta Cancer Foundation, 11560 University Ave., Edmonton, Alta., T6G 1Z2.
