Laurena Jessie Matthews, age 76, of Chisholm St., New Glasgow passed away April 26, 2009 in the QE II V.G. Site, Halifax.
Born at River John, May 7, 1932 she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Elizabeth (Graham) Patriquin.
Laurena had been a resident of Chisholm St. since 1967. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, New Glasgow and was involved in various church organizations. She was also involved with the Salvation Army Home League, the SPCA and was a member of the New Glasgow Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Laurena had worked for many years as a caregiver for children and seniors.
She is survived by her children Sheldon (Wanda), Kentville; Sheila (Ed) Kita, Halifax; Sherri (Kevin) Chapman, Halifax; grandchildren Luke and Jack.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in First United Baptist Church, New Glasgow with Rev. Leo Fletcher officiating.
Burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Donations in her memory may be made to SPCA, First United Baptist Church Building Fund, The Salvation Army or a charity of your choice.
