SCHWANKY
ELIZABETH (BESSIE) SCHWANKY passed away peacefully on April 9, 2009 at the age of 96 years. Born in the Herbert, Saskatchewan area on November 23, 1912, she was predeceased by her husband Ed in 1998, daughter-in-law, Annie Merle in 2000 and eldest son Richard in 2005. Bessie is survived by her daughter Marion (Gord Boyle) of Moose Jaw and son Mel (Yvonne) of Calgary; eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and fourteen great-great-grandchildren. After Ed’s retirement in 1964 they moved to Moose Jaw where Bessie worked at The Rack Men’s Wear as a Seamstress for many years. After Bessie retired, she enjoyed volunteer work at Pioneer Lodge and visitations to cancer patients, both in the Hospital and at their homes with Cancer Mount, of which she was a member. Bessie also belonged to the Minto United Church Social Group for many years. Although Bessie’s family meant the world to her, more importantly she meant the world to us. She will be remembered for her tender, loving and giving heart, her smile, her laughter and her zest for life which made her truly a treasure to all who knew her. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Bessie’s Life will be held on Friday, May 1, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chateau St. Michael’s Social Hall, 525 – 7th Ave. S.E., Moose Jaw. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 61B Ross St. W., Moose Jaw, S6H 2M2. In living memory of Bessie, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J.
