Loving wife, the world's best mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, devoted friend, leader, Champion five-pin bowler and member of the Hall of Fame, proud participant in The Rooms Women in Sport (pre-Confederation) Exhibition, these are just some of this very special woman's attributes that will remain in the hearts and memories of her family and friends forever. Ruth Guzzwell, aged 89 years, passed peacefully away in the arms of her children at the Glenbrook Lodge, St. John's, at 2:45 p.m., Saturday, April 25, 2009. Predeceased by her loving husband, Walter, her son-in-law Bill Dawe and her sister Fran Grant (husband Will). She leaves to mourn her daughter Maxine Dawe, her son Wayne Guzzwell; her grandchildren: Jill Dawe and Andrea Walsh (husband John); her great-grandchild, Ella Walsh; her brothers: Robert LeMessurier (wife Emmie) and Walter LeMessurier (wife Nellie), and sister Cynthia Murley (husband Roy); many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a large circle of friends. Visitation is at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, on Monday, April 27 from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, April 28 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Wesley United Church on Patrick Street on Wednesday April 29, 2009 at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruth's memory to the Arthritis Society or Wesley United Church. Please visit www.barretts.ca to sign the memorial guest book.
