Edith J. MacDonald, age 94, of High Crest Place, and formerly of New Glasgow and Pictou, passed away Monday, April 6, 2009 in the Aberdeen Hospital.
Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Alex W. and Nina (Curtis) MacDonald. She was a member of Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the Allan Pollock Missionary Society; the Ladies Aid; and she taught Sunday school. She was a member of Golden Link Rebekah Lodge No. 2 for 74 years where she was Past Noble Grand; and was a member of the Home League of the Salvation Army. She worked at Maritime Steel examining war shells; at the woollen mills; and at the IOOF Home, Pictou for 25 years from where she retired. Following her retirement, she did volunteer work at the IOOF Home and with meals on wheels in Pictou. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was predeceased by an infant sister and brother Lester Curtis MacDonald. She is survived by nephews: Robert C. (Betty Ann); Ralph E. (Penny); Dennis L. (Judy); two grandnieces: Kerri-Ann and Nicole; sister-in-law: Irene MacDonald; numerous cousins.
Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Friday, May 1, in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home New Glasgow. Funeral service 1 p.m., Saturday, May 2 in Saint Andrew’s Presbyterian Church with Rev. Richard Sand officiating. Burial will be in Durham Cemetery.
Donations in her memory may be made to Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church Building Fund or a charity of choice. Golden Link Rebekah Lodge will meet at the funeral home at 1:45 pm Friday to conduct their service. www.rhporter.ca
