It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Sandra June Hynes, 41, on Monday, April 27, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Sandra grew up in Glace bay and graduated from Morrison High School. She was a long time member of the Army, Navy and Airforce, where she also worked for many years, until leaving to go to work at the fish plant.
Sandra is survived by her daughter, Scotia Yvonne Hynes; father, Peter C. Hynes; brother, Richard (Cheryl); sisters, Linda (Deveaux) and Debbie (Phonse Walsh); numerous nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Sandra was predeceased by two children, who passed away in infancy, Courtney and Tyler; her mother, Esther and brother, David (Deveaux); grandparents, Peter and Eva Hynes, Edna Bernasky and Jim Kelly.
Sandra was very vibrant and loved to have her friends around her and always spread much laughter and joy. Sandra will be sadly missed by her best friend, Yvonne MacDonald and loving friend, Margie Campbell, who also sat with the family during her last few weeks.
A heartfelt thank you to her loving and caring companion, David Rogers, who never left her side. Thank you to the Palliative Care Unit, doctors and nurses. Thank you to all who brought food to the hospital for family and friends at this sad time. A very special thank you to Reggie Clark a very dear and caring friend of Sandra’s and of great help to Sandra’s family.
Visitation will take place today (Thursday) April 30, 2009 from 2-4 and 7- 9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
The funeral mass officiated by Rev. Bill Rankin is Friday morning at 10 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church followed by a reception in the church foyer. Interment will be held at a later date in the parish cemetery.
Sandra will be sadly missed by family and many, many friends.
Donations may be made to the Canadian Breast Cancer Society or Palliative Care Unit.
