AMHERST The death of Gladys Bishop, age 84, of Amherst, occurred at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 surrounded by her family.

Born in Aulac, NB, she was the daughter of the late Chesley and Evelyn (Wright) Stiles.
In her early years, Gladys worked in the shoe department of the Two Barkers department store for twenty five years, leaving only to raise her daughter and attend every school trip and function possible. Later Gladys reentered the workforce to provide childcare for many children in the Amherst area who she always considered to be like her own.

Gladys will always be remembered for her love of life and positive attitude. Even during her illnesses of the last three years she became everyone's favorite patient. She enjoyed many happy times over the past 40 years at her cottage in Amherst shore and absolutely adored her grandchildren.

Gladys will be sadly missed by her husband of 57 years, Carl Bishop, a daughter Sharon (Ray) Bristol; 2 grandchildren Thomas and Madeline; 2 step grandchildren Matthew and Melissa (Eli) and step great grand-daughter Macrina; 2 sisters Margaret Daniels and Maurietus MacPhee, several nieces and nephews and a special sister in law Karen Barnes. She was predeceased by brothers Eric, William, and Douglas and a baby sister Hilda.

The remains have been entrusted into the care of Furlong Jones Funeral Home, Amherst. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the Furlong Jones Chapel May 23, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Relay for Life, Amherst or a fund of the donors choice, gratefully appreciated. www.furlongjones.ca
