Our loving husband and father, Bob Bachynsky, 69, of Sydney River passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Wednesday, April 29, 2009.
Born in Montreal, Quebec, he is the son of the late Iwan and Anna (Zahayewich) Bachynsky.
Bob retired as a teacher from the Canadian Coast Guard College, Westmount, where he was also superintendent of the science department. He was a member of the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Church and Our Lady of Fatima parish. Bob was a Moses M. Cody 3rd Degree Council and William B. MacLeod 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was the first vice-president of the Cape Breton branch of the FSNA, and also Provincial Deputy Regional Director. Bob was a tutor for the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. He was an avid photographer, and he volunteered with the Boys Scouts of Canada, the Cape Breton Palliative Care Society and other church and community projects.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Berladyn) Bachynsky; son, Ted (Kelli Mulley), grandson, Alexander, Victoria, B.C.; son, Ivan (Jennifer Nicholson), grandsons, Andrew, William and Matthew, Rothesay, N.B.; daughter, MairiAnna (Dimitrios Evangelou) and granddaughter, Alexia, Toronto, Ont.; sister, Eugenia (Eugene) Steciuk, Montreal.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Sydney Memorial Chapel. Funeral mass will take place Monday at 10 a.m. at Holy Ghost Ukrainian Church with Fr. Roman Dusanowskyj. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Cape Breton Hospice, Palliative Care Society, or charity of choice.
