Archibald Franklyn Ross, 85, of Truro, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2009 at home.
Born in Truro, he was a son of the late David and Ethel (Fraser) Ross.
Archie formerly worked with Jack Roop at Vail’s Laundry and Cleaners and later moved to Sackville, N.B. where he owned and operated Sackville Laundry and Dry Cleaning. He was a member of the Nuttby United Baptist Church, Nuttby. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving overseas with the Royal Canadian Navy, and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro. Archie was a harness racing owner and harness racing enthusiast. He was an avid Montreal Canadian Fan.
He is survived by his aunt Mrs. Vivian Hoar, Truro; nephews Randy Roop (Betty), Brookfield, Robert Roop, Florida; niece, Loyus McDow (Terry), Bedford; several cousins.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Loyus Ferguson.
No visitation by request. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26, Truro will conduct a Legion Tribute Service on Tuesday, May 5 at 1:45 p.m. followed by funeral service at 2 p.m., all in the Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young St., Truro. Pastor Greg Porter will officiate with a reception to follow in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Robie Street Cemetery, Truro. Family flowers only.
