It is with deepest sorrow that the family of Cecil ‘Sam’ George Steele announce his passing at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, Sunday, May 3, 2009. He passed away peacefully into the hands of God surrounded by his six daughters and his granddaughter, Krista.
He was a resident of MacGillivray Guest Home and formerly of Westmount.

Cecil is survived by his six daughters, Belinda, Julie, Pam, Janet (Blaise), Sheila (Gerry), all of Sydney and Michelle (Mike), Port Hawkesbury; grandchildren, Derrick, John, Krista, Michael, Aleightia, Daniel, Lacey, Angela, Ryan and Dillan; step-grandchildren, Melanie and Alex; great-grandchildren, Coady, Isaiah, Caleb, Keyaira, Dustin, Heaven, Cole and Cohen; sisters, Eleanor and Rosie; brothers, Fred and Robert; as well as special family friends, Harry Demone and Marina Ross.

Cecil worked as a glazier for Lipton’s Auto Parts, Sydney, for 27 years before opening his own business, installing windshields with his brother, Hubert.
Cecil was a devoted father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who all adored their ‘Papa Sam’.
Cecil was a dedicated father to his six daughters, who worshipped their dad. He loved spending time building or fixing things for them. He leaves to them his wish for each of them to be able to have their own tools and know how to fix things so they can be independent.
He was a thoughtful, caring man who loved children and fed any stray animals he came across. He loved to spend time in his yard and working with his hands. He received an honours in woodworking, obtaining his certificate in 1948. Cecil loved to play the guitar, sing and dance.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has already taken place. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Anglican Parish of the Resurrection, Trinity Avenue, Sydney with Rev. Rhymes officiating. A gathering will be held after the service at the church hall.
