Sadly missed but loving remembered by her family and friends. Blanche, formerly of 387 Phalen Rd., Glace Bay, passed away on May 3, 2009 at the age of 91, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care in Sydney.
Born on September 19, 1917 in Petit Rocher, N.B., she was the daughter of the late Stanislas Doucet and Sylvina (nee Godin).
Blanche met and married her husband, John in Amherst (1943), when they both worked for the Canada Car Corp. They moved to Glace Bay in 1948 and she later worked as a nursing assistant at St. Joseph’s Hospital and at the Glace Bay General Hospital.
Blanche was a very talented and creative lady who loved to knit, sew and crochet. She also enjoyed cards, cooking, flower arranging and being with close friends.
Blanche is survived by two daughters, Pauline (Neil Frazer), Hawaii, USA and Lorraine (Emery Landry), Shediac, N.B.; grandchildren, Justin, Mark, Breton, Christopher, Heather, Mellissa and Tony; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her late husband, John (March 2008) and her only son, David (March 2003) (Clarica Sanidad), Vancouver, B.C.; two brothers, Leo, Big Bay, Michigan, USA and Vincent, Belledune, N.B.
Blanche lost her mother at the age of three and was raised by her aunt, the late Georgina Doucet of Petit Rocher, N.B.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Harbourstone Enhanced Care, where she received excellent care.
In accordance with the wish of the deceased, there will be no visitation. A formal Catholic mass will be held at a future date (to be announced). Arrangements are entrusted to V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
Memorial donations in Blanche’s memory may be made to the Lung Association or charity of your choice.
