Arnold Joseph Alexander ‘Arnie’, 77, of Prime Brook, N.S., passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney on May 2, 2009.
He was born in Sydney, N.S., April 26, 1932, to the late Violet and Albert Alexander.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Rose (O’Neill); sons, Brian (Janet), Spruce Grove Alta., Albert, Prime Brook; grandson, Gregory, Prime Brook; and one sister, Betty (Laurier) Wells, Sydney; many nieces, nephews; and other family and friends.
He was predeceased by his eldest son, Gregory in 1985.
Arnold spent many years actively involved in sports. He played for the Sydney Millionaires, was an avid bowler, and a member of the Men’s 400 & Over bowling club, coached little league baseball and was always available for coaching advice for his sons and grandson. As an industrial electrician and employee of the Sydney Steel Corporation for 35 years, Arnold retired in 1986. He was a past president and active member in the Nova Scotia Co-Op Housing and assisted many families in the construction of their first homes.
A memorial mass will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, May 7 at St. Theresa’s Church, Sydney, with Fr. James Oliver officiating. A luncheon and fellowship to celebrate Arnold’s life to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Private interment will occur at a later date.
Arnold will be deeply missed but forever remembered by family and friends.
