It is with heavy hearts that we, the family announce the passing of our dear mother, Lucy Sebina MacDonald, 91, of George’s River, formerly of Sydney Mines. She passed away Sunday, May 3, 2009.
Mom lived with her son Alex and special daughter-in-law, Charlene for the past two years. She never laughed so much as she did during this time.
Born in Alder Point, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Henrietta (Doucet) Devoe.
She was a member of St. Piux X parish, Sydney Mines, and a member of the parish CWL.
She is survived by nine children, Bill (Sandy), St. Catharines, Russell (Anne), Groves Point, Mary (Fred), Niagara Falls, Frank (Marie), Sydney Mines, Thomas (Debbie), North Sydney, Elizabeth (Neil), Florence, Alex (Charlene), George’s River, Bernie (Lorie), Bras d’Or, and Lisa Marie, Ottawa. She was granny to 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Mary Fry and Mary Eva Ough and her brothers, Clarence, Russell, William and Thomas.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John in 1988, son, Gordon, an infant son, sisters, Elsie Marsh, Della Gaskell, Bernadette Doyle and Margaret Chapman, brothers, Hubert, Ernest, Elmer and Charles and a brother in infancy.
Bena was a kind and gentle woman who was loved by everyone who knew her. No one ever left the house without a hot cup of tea and a hand-made cross which she was so proud to give.
Visitation Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Pius X Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. Hughie MacNeil and Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Bras d’Or.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph Cemetery Fund, Bras d’Or.
