Floyd 'Barney' Barnett
Passed away following a short illness, Floyd ‘Barney’ Barnett, Chicago, age 85 years. An avid fly fisher he came to the island in 1966 and for the next thirty years plied his fishing skill on the Humber. He spent many hours catching and releasing the mighty Atlantic salmon long before that practice became popular. People who met ‘Barney’ came to know a man who always cared about the environment. It was by his example of picking up ‘garbage’ from the shores of the river, that some had left behind that he taught others not to destroy these special places. The smell of his pipe tobacco wafting across the pool indicated that he was back for another season. Everyone who knew him has a special story to tell. Leaving to mourn his wife, Maryann; daughter Patricia Dossett, Kentucky. It was his wish to have his ashes brought back to Newfoundland and placed where he dearly loved to fish, Mistaken Point. “You have come full circle my friend” Rod & Don
