It is with great sadness that the family of the late Glesby Eli Wight announce his sudden passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook on Thursday, March 5th, 2009 in his 86th. year. Leaving to mourn his sister Mrs. Edith Roberts of Deer Lake; his brother Allan (Margaret) of Botwood; his niece Maxine (John) Chaulk of Deer Lake; his sister-in-law Gladys Wight; his home care worker Marylin King. Glesby was predeceased by his wife Beryl (nee Squires), his parents Albertha & Alfred Wight, his brothers: James, Reuben, Harry, and Hubert, his sisters: Alma (Hedley) Gordon, Ethel (Scott ) Ball, his mother and father-in-law Fanny & Harry Squires, his sister-in-law Marie. Also leaves to mourn a large number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and his extended family. Glesby was a WW II veteran and served in the Navy before coming home to be a mechanic. Glesby was one of the founding member of the Great War Veteran Association in Deer Lake and also a Life member of the R.C. Legion Branch #3, Deer Lake, He loved to participate in the school visits during the Remembrance Day week and take part in the Poppy Campaign at the local business, also having a card club for the Seniors held at the local branch. Thank you Glesby. The family will be receiving family and friends from Parsons Funeral Home & Chapel, 63 North Main Street, Deer Lake on Sunday, March 8th. from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 pm. The funeral service will take place on Monday, March 9th. 2009 at 2 pm from the Pentecostal Church in Deer Lake with Pastor Peter Grimes officiating with cremation to follow. The burial will take place in the spring at the United Church section of Wights Road Cemetery in Deer Lake. The funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parsons Funeral Home & Chapel, 63 North Main Street, Deer Lake.
