Passed in: Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada
Passed on: April 10th, 2010
The passing of Bertrand 'Murray' Lamb, husband of Cissie Lamb, of Massey Street, Fredericton, occurred on April 10, 2010 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Born on December 15, 1918 in Arden, Manitoba, he was the son of Robert Newton and Grace (Eames) Lamb.
Losing both parents at a very early age, Murray went to live with relatives on a farm in Camrose, Alberta. Not totally cut out for farm life, Murray joined the RCMP in May 1941 and completed training in Regina and Ottawa. His first postings were in the Province of Ontario. It was while stationed in Windsor, Ontario that he first met Cissie James. In 1946 Murray was transferred to Woodstock, New Brunswick. Shortly after arriving in NB he requested permission (from the RCMP) to marry Cissie and bring her east. His initial request was denied but Murray's mind was made up. They were married in Windsor on December 7, 1946. Murray served the remainder of his RCMP career in New Brunswick with postings in Woodstock, Grand Manan, Gagetown, Minto, Saint John, Fredericton, Bathurst and Moncton. Along the way he and Cissie made many lasting friendships. They also found time to raise a family. Upon leaving the RCMP in June 1966, Murray and Cissie returned to Fredericton to settle down. They had become Maritimers.
In 1966 Murray began a second career with the New Brunswick Electric Power Commission as its first Chief of Security. As before, Murray developed many friendships from within the realm of NB Power. In 1981 Murray finally 'called it a day'. In the years that followed he was an active member of the RCMP Veterans Association. He and Cissie enjoyed spending time with family and visiting old acquaintances. He loved his garden and couldn't resist an invitation to play bridge. Most Sunday mornings would find Murray and Cissie in attendance at St. Pauls United Church.
In addition to Cissie, Murray is survived by sister Ardith of Brandon, Manitoba; daughters Jo-Anne Stillwell (Olie) of Fredericton, Donna Richard (Dennis) of Ottawa; son Robert (Sandra) of Fredericton; grandchildren, Alyse, Daralyn, Dehrig, Donahue, Matthew and Nicholas; great grandchildren Camilia, Dahlia, Danya and Elliana. Murray was predeceased by a sister Coral of Clyde, Alberta.
At the request of the family there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held at McAdam's Funeral Home, 160 York Street, Fredericton on Wednesday, April 14 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Gil MacKenzie officiating. Members of the RCMP Veterans Association will act as honorary Pallbearers. Interment will take place at a later date at the Forest Hill Cemetery.
For those who wish, remembrances to the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family. On-line condolences may be made at www.mcadamsfh.com.
