Passed on: April 12th, 2010

The death of Deane Rupert Crabbe, of Bristol, occurred on April 12, 2010 at the River View Manor, Bath. Born on December 11, 1922, he was the son of the late Harold & Helen (Long) Crabbe and husband to Sadie (Giberson) Crabbe. Deane grew up in Riverbank and attended school in Florenceville where he graduated in 1939. In 1947 his father Harold, brothers Paul and Neville along with Deane, located a sawmill in the village of Bristol. Deane worked in the capacity of secretary and later the president of H.J. Crabbe & Sons Ltd. where he remained in that capacity until 1997. Sawmilling was his life and passion. He served as a member of the Carleton County Council for many years until the councils were abolished in the early 60's. Deane spent many summers chasing sea trout and salmon on the North Branch of the Miramichi river with a barnyard special, along with many of his friends and family from Juniper. During his early years Deane enjoyed baseball, softball, and when he got older he was very active in the Florenceville Curling Club. Playing cards was also a major passion and he loved to play as long as he could win, just ask anyone who happened to be his opponent in any game. Deane will be sadly missed by friends and family and his contribution to the area has been enormous. Deane is survived by his wife, Sadie; Sons, Raymond (Paulette)and their daughter, Angie Gilbert (Andrew), Donald Crabbe and his children, Ben Crabbe, Spring Gehrs (Henry)and their mother, Liz Hughes; Grandson-in-Law, Stephen Trowsdale; Great-grandchildren, Samara, Jayden, Calab, Indera, Tiana, and Jemma; two sisters, Audrey Clark and Avis Savage (Ed); one brother, Paul Crabbe; several nieces and nephews.
