Earle T. Vassallo, 73, of Halifax, and formerly of Dominion, died April 9, 2010, at home after a three-year battle with cancer.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the youngest child of Frank and Sarah (MacPhee) Vassallo.
Earle worked for many years in the oil and gas industry, was sports editor for a British Columbia newspaper and more recently managed property in the Halifax area. He shared his father's and brothers' passion for 'spirited debate,' sailing and sports, especially hockey.
Many people helped to make Earle's last days more comfortable and his family thanks the residents and staff of McKeen Manor, the VON (especially volunteer Rosalee), Meals on Wheels, his doctors and nurses, Care Co-ordinator Marie-Claire, those who brought him the Eucharist regularly and others known only to him whose care and compassion are much appreciated.
Earle is survived by sons, Terry (Simone), Lunenburg, Todd (Peggy), Sydney, Tim, Halifax; daughter, Shawna, Saint John, N.B.; grandchildren, Stephen, Rachael, Sarah, Vivienne; brother, Greg, Dartmouth; sisters, Mary McPherson, California, Patsy MacNeil, Dominion, lifelong friend, Sadie MacNeil, Dominion; 30 nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers, Frank, John, Bernard, Ignatius, sister, Lorraine, three nephews and a niece.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A mass to celebrate Earle's life will take place at St. Eugene's Church, Dominion, Monday, April 19 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Daniel Boudreau officiating. A reception will follow in the parish hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Earle's memory to the VON, the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice will be appreciated.
