It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of Verina Courtney, 89, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Burgeo, N.L., Verina was the daughter of the late Henry and Ethel (Matthews) Foote.
She was a member of St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney.
Verina is survived by her husband, Claude Courtney; one son, Ronald (Sylvia) Bond, Bay St. Paul, Que.; one daughter, Barbara (Charlie) Downey, Toronto; two granddaughters, Carol and Sandra; her three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Roy (Grace) Foote, P.E.I.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Walter Bond, two brothers, Edgar and Ronald, and one sister, Valencia.
There will be no visitation. A funeral service for Verina will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney, with Diane Kempt officiating. Burial will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.
