Stella Mae Leadbetter

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Stella Mae Leadbetter at the North Cumberland Memorial Hospital in Pugwash, N.S. on Friday, November 14, 2008 at the age of 69. Born in McKay’s, Newfoundland she was a daughter of the late Peter and Amanda (Brake) McKay. Stella enjoyed traveling to music festivals with her companion Grant Wood of Oxford, N.S. She enjoyed playing any card game and solving the most challenging of crossword puzzles. She was an excellent cook and an avid hostess who was always up for a good laugh and a scoff. Stella is survived by her children Heather Leadbetter, Lower Sackville, N.S., Stephen (Susan) Leadbetter, Fall River, N.S., Cynthia (Alan) Mendoza, Summerside, P.E.I., Chuck Leadbetter, Shilo, Manitoba, Andrew (Diana) Leadbetter, Truro, N.S. grandchildren Mitchell, Tanner, Nick and Jessie, sisters Grace Oakley, Bedford, N.S., Ethel Gale, McKay’s Nfld., Amy Snow, Corner Brook, Nfld., Lorna (Bernard) Hayward, Port Elgin, Ont. and brother Ralph (Ruby) McKay, Heatherton, Nfld. Besides her parents Stella was predeceased by her husband Hugh Leadbetter, Oxford, N.S. and brother, Ross (Mildred) McKay, McKay’s Nfld. Special thanks to those who cared for her in her last months, especially Dr. Fashorante, Martha, Ethel Gale, Grant Wood and all the wonderful staff at North Cumberland Memorial Hospital, Pugwash. In keeping with her wishes cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held from St. James Presbyterian Church, Oxford on Tuesday, November 18, at 2 P.M. with the Rev. Elizabeth Davies officiating. A private family interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Oxford. A reception will be held in the St. James Presbyterian Church following the interment. In lieu of flowers donations in Stella’s memory may be made to the North Cumberland Memorial Hospital Palliative Care Unit or to The Lodge That Gives, Halifax, N.S.
