The death of Neil J. Huestis of Bear Island, NB occurred peacefully at home on Saturday, April 17, 2010. Born in Bear Island on May 29, 1927, he was a son of the late Frederick and Sadie (Gunter) Huestis. Neil was a farmer before his retirement and also employed for several years as foreman at Tractors and Equipment in Fredericton. During the early years of farming, he was a member of the Bear Island Agricultural Society and had served the Central New Brunswick Maple Syrup Producers as president and secretary treasurer. Neil was a member of the Keswick Ridge United Church of Canada. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Geneva M. (Grant) Huestis; two daughters, Barbara (Allen Smith) of Fredericton, NB and Brenda (Peter London) of Morinville, AB; a son, Timothy of Bear Island, NB; three grandchildren, Kyle, Rebecka London and Mathewson Huestis; two sisters, Bernice Hayes of Vancouver, BC and Maxine Hurley (Joseph) of Truro, NS; a brother-in-law, Harry Rosborough (Florence), of Prince William, NB and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Neil was predeceased by seven brothers, Roland, Harry, Herman (Spud), Kenneth, Merle, Russell and Lorne and two sisters, Ruth Huestis and Eileen Rosborough.
Visitation will be held at Flewelling Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic, NB on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the Keswick Ridge United Church of Canada, 501 Route 616, Keswick Ridge, NB on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Amos Adeniyi officiating. Interment will be at Bear Island Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Leslie Morrison, Firman LaGay and Harry Gilbey. Active pallbearers will be Paul Embleton, Floyd Rosborough, Wayne Gunter, Owen Hagerman, Brian Ingraham and grandson Kyle London.
