It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, Clarence Walsh, 89, on Saturday, April 24, 2010, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Florence, Clarence was the son of the late John William and Olive (Knox) Walsh.
He was a veteran of the Second World War serving with the Canadian Army, stationed at Aldershot, N.S.
He worked as a mechanic for a number of years and later worked with Martell Construction until his retirement. In his earlier years he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney.
He is survived by his six daughters, Joan Cort, Mary MacIntyre (Rollie), Selena Harris, Elma (John) Lettice, Helen (Liam) McGean, Barbara Walsh (John), all of North Sydney; three sons, Daniel (Ruth), Richard (Anne), both of North Sydney, and one very special son, Clarence known as 'Carnie', who resides at home, and a large number of loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren who loved him very much; his brother, Louis; a sister, May, both of Ontario; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Justine (Shay) Walsh, four sisters, Hazel, Gladys, Irene and Edith, one brother, Arthur, granddaughter, Yvonne Donovan, sons-in-law, Fred Harris and Daniel MacIntyre.
Visitation for Clarence will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Jim Attwood officiating. Cremation to follow with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, or the Nova Scotia Lung Association.
