After a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer Gordon Frederick McKay passed away on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. He was 55.
Born in Fredericton on August 2, 1954, he was the much loved son of Marguerite (Williams) McKay and the late Irvine F. McKay. Gordon was Anglican by faith and was affiliated with Christ Church Parish Church.
Although he recently worked as a contractor for the Daily Gleaner, many will remember Gordon from McKay's Convenience Store that he owned and operated in Lincoln for many years. He also owned McKay's Baits and was a partner in O'Malley's Pub in Kings Place. He spent many years in sales working for Paul's Cookies, Dunster's Donuts and Capital Dairy.
An avid fisherman and hunter, Gordon was happiest spending time at his camp in Boiestown with friends and family.
Gordon is survived by his loving and devoted companion and fiancé, Karen Kushner (MacDonald); two daughters, Carol Desaulniers (Edward) and Sharon McKay both of Edmonton, Alberta; five grandchildren, Kimberley, Eddie, Casandra, Riley and Jamie; three step-daughters, Cynthia Arbeau, Andrea Arbeau (Jeff) and Erica Arbeau all of Fredericton; one step granddaughter Kaylee; his mother, Marguerite McKay of Fredericton; four sisters, Addie Marshall (Larry) of Cambridge-Narrows, Bonnie Keetch (Alton) of Kingston Pennisula, Elaine Hamilton (Greg) of Hanwell and Vera Gammon of Riverview; nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; cousins. Gordon is also survived by his very special and faithful canine friend "Taffy".
The family will receive relatives and friends at Bishop's Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton, on Thursday, April 29th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held from Christ Church Parish Church, 245 Westmorland St., Fredericton on Friday, April 30, 2010 at 11:00 AM. Rev. Anthony Kwaw and Archdeacon John Sharpe will officiate. Interment will be held in the Bloomfield Ridge Cemetery at 2:30 PM.
Memorials to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
