IVAN AKISTER
September 8, 1927 - April 29, 2009
It is with great sadness that the family wishes to announce the passing of Ivan at the Cypress Regional Hospital after a short illness. He is survived by son Terry (Doris), grandchildren Sarah and Michelle; daughter Gwen (Gord) Gustavson, grandchildren Ryan (Shari), Erica, Nikki (Alex), great-granddaughter Raya; daughter Susan (Wade) Luchsinger and grandchildren Ameena and Conner. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Gladys; and four brothers. Ivan was born in Tuberose, SK, and grew up in the White Bear district. He actively farmed the family homestead until the fall of 2008. After the death of Gladys in 1998, Ivan moved to Kyle. He was an active member of the local museum board and met almost every day with the "coffee row" crowd. He spent many nights at the hockey rink watching any and every group on the ice. He said he "just went for the burgers," but those sitting in the "old farmers" section knew the truth. At Ivan's request there will be no funeral service. The family asks that donations may be made in Ivan's name to the Kyle museum or the Kyle Community Sports Centre. Warren's Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK, entrusted with arrangements.
