We regret to announce the passing of Donnie Young, 46, of Halifax, formerly of Sydney Mines, on Friday, April 30, 2010, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines on January 14, 1964, he was the son of Francis Young and the late Naomi (MacIntyre) Young. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish, Sydney Mines.
Donnie worked as a painter for many years, and later worked for Taylor Flooring in Halifax until his illness. Donnie was known for his affectionate smile and his kind and generous heart. He will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He is survived by his wife Robyn (Lively) Young, and his two sons, Gavin and Willy. Also left to mourn are his father, Francis, Sydney Mines; brothers, Colin (Anne) Young, Regina, David (Marjorie) Young, Sydney Mines, and sisters Francine (Sheldon) Young, Calgary, and Joanne (Lloyd) Johnston, Sydney Mines; many nieces, nephews, and godchildren, aunts and uncles, a very special cousin Jœy MacIntyre, and his very special Aunt Mary (White) Gardiner.
He was predeceased by his mother Naomi (MacIntyre) Young.
His family would like to extend a special thanks to Robyn's family, especially Brian Lively and Grace Herdman for all their love and support during Donnie's illness.
Visitation for Donnie Young will be held in the J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines on Monday, May 3, 2010, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral mass to celebrate his life will take place on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, with Fr. Thomas John officiating.
