Sarah Gertrude Chiasson, 101, of Margaree Forks died April 30, 2010, at home.
Born Nov. 26, 1908, in Lake O Law, Inverness Co., she was a daughter of the late John and Rebecca (Tompkins) Miller.
She was a member of St. Michael's parish, Margaree, and a member of St. Michael's CWL. Sarah was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are her six daughters, Sister Isabel Chiasson, CSM Bethany, Antigonish, Elenor MacPhee, Mabou, Lorraine Deveau, Dartmouth, Anne (Angus) MacKinnon, Margaree Harbour, Theresa (Frank) Richard, Halifax, and Mary, Margaree Forks; sons, John (Ann), Sydney, Stephen (Rosella), Yellowknife, Edgar (Lorna), James (Maureen), Margaree Forks; 32 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Didace (1965), two daughters, Margaret and Anita, son, Robert and one grandson.
Although Sarah had a large family she always had time to work for her church, the school and Red Cross during wartime. She also enjoyed knitting and did so until the last couple of years.
Visitation will be in St. Michael's parish hall on Tuesday, May 4 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with a prayer vigil at 8 p.m. Funeral mass will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. from St. Michael's Church, East Margaree, with Fr. Vincent VanZupthen officiating, burial in the parish cemetery.
