It is with tremendous sadness, we the family of Rodina ‘Deanie’ MacNeil, announce her passing peacefully at her home in Sydney River on Saturday, May 2, 2009.
Born in Sydney, Deanie was the loving wife and best friend of her predeceased husband, John ‘J.K.’ MacNeil.
She is survived by children, Kevin (Arlene) and Jamie (Lori), both of Cole Harbour. Deanie loved her children, but the special place in her heart was always reserved for her grandchildren, Alyssa, who lived with and cared for her grandmother while attending CBU this year, Emily and Meaghan. Deanie is also survived and will be sadly missed by siblings, Peggy (Norman) MacMullin, Bernadette (Walter) Schella, Doug (Karen) MacNeil, Billy MacNeil, Corinne MacNeil (Roy Taylor) and Brent MacNeil.
Deanie was predeceased by her parents, Bernie and Mary (MacDonald) MacNeil, brothers, Donnie, Jimmy ‘Jake’; sisters, Florence (Dugga MacNeil) and Joan Arlene at birth.
After her family, Deanie loved going to the rink to follow her beloved Sydney Academy hockey team, coached by her husband J.K. and brother-in-law, Dugga. A keen follower of politics, Deanie loved to discuss all the events of the day.
Visitation for the late Rodina MacNeil will take place at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church with Rev. Lourdusamy Mariadoss officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations may be made in her memory to the J.K. MacNeil Memorial Scholarship Fund at Sydney Academy.
