Helen Keay passed away on Monday, May 4, 2009. She was predeceased by her parents James and Rachel Keay; brothers and sisters-in-law Bill (Gladys), John (Marion), Malcolm (Lou) and Donald; sister Agnes Laing; brothers-in-law Milt Laing and Harry Brumwell. Helen is survived by her sister Annie Brumwell of Moose Jaw; as well as numerous nieces and nephews across Canada. Helen attended elementary and secondary school in Moose Jaw. She attended the University of Saskatchewan and worked in the Moose Jaw Library. Helen spent many years at the Regina General Hospital as a Laboratory Technician and in later years she coordinated the clinical phase of students training of Medical Laboratory Technologists. Helen was very active in the Saskatchewan Branch of the Canadian Society for the Medical Laboratory Science. Helen was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Freedom 55 Club, Zonta Woman’s Service Club, an active supporter of the Regina Opera Guild, the Regina Stichery Guild, the Regina Symphony and the Home Economics of Living Project. Helen was a keen bird watcher traveling to Churchhill, MB and Bathurst Inlet, NU. Helen was a life long learner, taking courses through the University of Regina Senior’s Education centre until fall 2008. Helen’s achievements included Registered Medical Technologist in the areas of General Medical Laboratory Technique, Advanced Registered Technologist in Biochemistry and a Fellow of the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science. She authored the book Lord Lorne’s Expedition to the North-West, reported by Reverend Dr. James MacGregor, 1881. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Extendicare and Pasqua ACL Unit for the respectful and compassionate care they provided to Helen. In Lieu of flowers donations in Helen’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice. A MEORIAL SERVICE will be held at Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East, Regina, SK on Saturday, May 9, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. A private family interment will take place at a later date in the Moose Jaw Cemetery.
