It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of Jœy 'Moose' McDonald, 59, at his residence in Glace Bay on Sunday, May 2, 2010.
Born in Glace Bay, Nov. 9, 1950, he was the son of the late Francis and Catherine 'Tebe' (Campbell) McDonald.
Jœy was employed as a coal miner for Devco for 26 years. He enjoyed playing darts on Friday night and spending time at the barn with good friends. His pride and joy was his two grandchildren, Travis and Jenna 'Poppie's Baby Girl'.
Jœy is survived by his wife, Leanna (Mac Askill) McDonald; sons, Darren (Corrie), Ian (Debbie) and grandchildren, Travis and Jenna. He is also survived by his brother, Gordon (Laura) and his sister, Jean (Aubrey); special aunt, Florence 'Finn' Penny; stepmother, Phœbe; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, Jœy was predeceased by his brother, Sammy, a sister, Ann Louise and a brother, Jœy in infancy.
In honoring Jœy's wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation will take place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday, May 6 at St. John's Church, Glace Bay, with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
