Dan A. Burgess, 60, of Windward Drive, Glace Bay, passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at the Glace Bay Hospital surrounded by his family.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late John Stanfield and Rosaline (Drinkwater) Burgess.
Dan was employed with Consolidated Fastfreight Trucking in Toronto driving 18 Wheeler's for over 30 years. He studied Jehovah's Witness and attended services in both Toronto and Glace Bay (Kingdom Hall, Reserve Street).
Dan loved to sit by the water or ocean front and enjoy a good cup of coffee or explore nature on his ATV. He was an avid animal lover, giving special attention to dogs. But mostly, Dan will be remembered as a kind and helpful man with a great sense of humour.
He is survived by two daughters, Leona and Lezlie; one son, John Stanfield, Ontario; three brothers, Richard, Roy, Jack; and four sisters, Doreen, Marjorie, Helen, Ann. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, close friends, Alfie (Violet) Kim; and two special nieces, Amanda (Edward), Tara (Dennis), both in Glace Bay.
Dan was predeceased by four sisters, Sharon, Hope, Barbara, Dolly, two brothers, Stanley, Georgie, and stepfather, Michael Currie.
Memorial donations in memory of Dan can be made to the Nova Scotia Heart & Stroke Association.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home in Glace Bay.
