It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Ronald James Pike, 74, resident of Balls Creek, who passed away Friday, May 7, 2010, at the Northside Community Guest Home, North Sydney.
Born in St. Vital, Manitoba, he was a son of the late Charles and Hilda (Pickford) Pike.
Ron moved to Whitney Pier after meeting his wife Claire. Together with their 'tribe,' they moved to Balls Creek in 1977. He was employed for number of years as a labourer and truck driver. Prior to a debilitating auto accident in 1974, he worked for Bill Lynch Shows and later MacDougall's Transfer of Sydney.
Ronald was a former member of the North Sydney and Sydney Mines Pensioners Club, the Radar Base and several community dart leagues. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Sydney River, and St. Mary's Church, Frenchvale.
Ron enjoyed his life, filling his days with gardening, ceramics, carving, curling, darts and travel.
Throughout his lifetime of different illnesses, he was supported by God, the Blessed Virgin Mary, all the Saints and his wife Claire. Ronald and his family truly appreciated all the care and support received over the last three to four years from the Home Care attendants and the staff of the Northside Community Guest Home, Theresa Terrace.
Ron sadly leaves behind his beloved daughters, Patricia Lynn Pike (Larry Rodrigues), Kentville, Clarissa Michelle (Michael) Small, Massachusetts, Katherina Maria (Glen) McIsaac, Calgary, Debbie Charlene Pike, Sydney, also surviving are 10 grandchildren; his brother, Arthur (Sue) Pike, Winnipeg; sisters, Millie (Jim) Stevens, Winnipeg, Linda (Jerry) Rose, Comox, B.C.; adoptive brother, James (Bunny) Penny, Halifax; adoptive sister, Margaret (Fred) Molyneaux, Yarmouth; brothers-in-law, Gordon (Enis) Moss, Allan (Patsy) Moss, both of Sydney, sisters in law Patricia (Tom) Murphy, Sydney, Mary Moss, Ontario; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Ron was predeceased by his beloved wife, Claire (Moss) Pike, on April 26, 2009, his son, Ronald Allan in 1984, his grandchildren, Michael and Mary Small in 2007, a brother, Jackie, a sister, Charlotte Hryclick and adoptive parents, Rita and Clyde Penny.
Visitation for Ron will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Church, Frenchvale, with Rev. Paul Abbass officiating. Burial to follow in parish cemetery.
