
Dr. Neil S. Turner

(February 8, 1937 - 2010). Dr. Neil Turner passed peacefully away at his home at the end of a beautiful Mother's Day gathering surrounded by his devoted and loving family: wife Brenda, children: Donna (Chris Hickman, Thomas and Alex), Laurie (Alex Twells, Louise, Jack, Amelia), Lesley (James MacKay, Victoria, Meg, David, Elizabeth), son Mark, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sheila and Ed Abbott. Predeceased by his mother and father Charles and Kathleen Turner. Neil grew up in England and emigrated to Newfoundland and Labrador in 1962. He married Brenda and embraced life in Newfoundland making it his home. Neil was an avid outdoorsman and spent many days exploring our beautiful province. He had an immense respect and interest in the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. Neil's second home was in Ocean Pond where he took great delight in nature. Through his influence his children and grandchildren are following in his footsteps. Neil graduated from Edinburgh Medical School in 1962 and moved to St. John's with fellow graduate, Dr. Douglas Taylor, who remained a life-long friend. He completed his internship at the General Hospital and spent a year in general practice in Buchans. He completed his Orthopedic Residency in Montreal and returned to Newfoundland where he remained devoted to his patients for over 40 years. The family would like to thank Neil's oncologist, Dr. Zulfigar and the many healthcare professionals who provided him with such wonderful care and support. Cremation has taken place. Visitations will be at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Tuesday, May 11th from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday, May 12th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of Neil's life will take place on Thursday, May 13th 10:30 a.m. at Carnell's Chapel. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Neil's memory to the Vera Perlin Society or a charity of one's choice.
