STELLARTON - Yvonne Frances Scissons, age 84, of the Valley View Villa, Riverton, and formerly of Stellarton, passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2010 in the Villa.
Born in Amherst, she was a daughter of the late Frank Percy and Eva Fraser (Gauld) Van Buskirk.
Yvonne was a resident of Stellarton for most of her life. She trained at the Victoria General Hospital, having done special nursing for a number of years. She was then employed with Glen Haven Manor for 15 years. Yvonne was a member of Sharon St. John United Church, a member of the Stellar Curling Club, the Stellarite Seniors Club and was also involved in line dancing. She was involved with a number of charitable organizations such as Meals on Wheels and the Seniors Help Line.
Surviving are daughters: Patricia Audrey (Francis) Scissons-Fares, Halifax; Nancy Yvonne (Charles) Hale, Abercrombie; sons, Kevin James (Jim) (Dawn) Scissons; Michael John (Susan) Scissons, both of Bible Hill; grandchildren: Nissa Lee, Katie Lynn, Jordan Taylor, Nicholas Ryan, Bradley Charles Kenneth, Anthony Francis Fares, Tyler Joachim; a brother, LeRoy Van Buskirk, Dartmouth.
She was predeceased by her husband, James Kenneth (Ken) Scissons; a sister, Audrey.
Cremation will take place. A public memorial service will be held on Friday, May14th 2010 at 11 a.m. in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton, with Rev. John Roy officiating. Burial will be in the Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Yvonne may be made to the Nova Scotia Cancer Society.
