It is with deep sadness and sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Margaret ‘Sis’ MacKinnon, 67, on Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Helen (Cousins) Bailey. She was a member of Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines. Sis enjoyed spending time with her family and playing horseshoes. In her younger years, she was the Maritime Horseshoe Champion in the Women’s Division. Her many friends will miss talking to her on the phone.
She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Archie MacKinnon; her daughter, Gale (Tom) Higham, North Sydney and her sons, Archie Jr. (Stella), Bras d’Or and Ernie (Kim), Point Aconi. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Shawna (Tommy) Baker, Tracy, Kristin, Thomas, Breanne, and Mitchell; her great-grandchildren, Jarrett, Jaylyn, Jeremy, and Jada; brothers, Vince (Sharon), Sheldon (Wendy); her sister, Phyllis (Adrian) O’Toole and many special nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Sis was predeceased by her sister, Adeline, and her brothers, Stan ‘Tuller’ and Harold.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at 2 p.m. in Trinity Anglican Church, Queen Street, Sydney Mines, with the Rev. Peter Rafuse officiating. A reception will follow the service in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sis’s memory may be made to Trinity Anglican Church.
